This was my first year volunteering with Mission Africa for their medical outreach. It was absolutely incredible. I was born in Nigeria and moved to the United States at the age of 4. I had not been back to Nigeria in over 30 years. Being able to return to my native home as a medical volunteer is something I will never forget, something I cannot put a price on.
Partnering with the local physicians and other volunteers, traveling to the very remote village of Arochukwu, serving over 600 patients, learning to shift my mindset and my practice based on the community I was serving, seeing the hope and gratitude on the faces of those we served- all made this experience worthwhile.
Furthermore, being able to witness this year's scholarship recipients was the icing on the cake! God lit a fire in my heart at the age of 12 for medical missions. He re-confirmed this passion during this trip. I came back with more vision, more purpose, and incredible joy. Mission Africa does great work. Even if this organization only impacted one life, it would be worth it. But the fact that it is impacting MANY lives to this degree makes this organization priceless.
I thank God for the opportunity to serve with Mission Africa and I CANNOT wait until next year!
