At Mission Africa, healthcare is one of our three focus areas and is critical to our mission's success. Thanks to the support from our dedicated partners, volunteers, and donors, we continue to make significant impact!
- African Health Advocacy Project: Funded by the Washington State Department of Health and in collaboration with Health Commons Project, African Community Leaders and Youth Change Agents, advocated for better health and wellness across African communities in the Puget Sound focusing on education and empowerment. DOH also funded us to host the "Spring into Health" fair," which focused on holistic wellness (spirit, soul, and body). of Immigrant Youth and families
- "Inhale Knowledge, Exhale Change" Family Wellness Event: Mission Africa engages youth (ages 12-17) and their families, educating them about the risks of substance use. It is always a successful, informative session with active participation from the community, highlighting our commitment to promoting health and wellness.
Parents of the youth we've impacted through these programs continue to share their experiences from our drug abuse prevention classes, noting how their children learned about the dangers of marijuana and the peer pressure that often leads to drug use. This involvement sparked a greater interest in Mission Africa’s programs, particularly because of the educational value. African families are now more engaged in our health initiatives, underscoring the lasting impact of our work.
- Pierce and King County Public Health Departments: funded and collaborated with us on following youth focused projects: "Above the Influence," "Inhale Knowledge, Exhale Change," and "Love You Too" delivering in-person and virtual training on the dangers of cannabis, tobacco, and vaping to local youth.
- Overcomer Community Church’s Health Ministry: partners with us to organize a community health fair alongside our annual back-to-school backpack drive.
- Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center: Partnered with us to educate the African immigrant men and women on the impact of prostate, breast and ovarian cancers, sharing on prevention, early detection, treatment and support strategies.
Thank you to all our funders, partners, volunteers, and kind-hearted individuals for your dedication to this important work. Together, we’re making a difference!
